Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU

Location: Hackensack, NJ 07601

Job Type: Contract | Local or Travel

Shift: 4 × 10-hour shifts

Assignment Duration: 13 weeks

Pay Rate: $50–$55 per hour

Position Summary

The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and procedural interventions. The RN is responsible for monitoring physiological status, managing pain and post-operative complications, and ensuring a safe transition from anesthesia to the next phase of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Phase I and/or Phase II PACU nursing care to post-operative patients

  • Monitor airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, and vital signs

  • Assess and manage post-anesthesia pain, nausea, and other complications

  • Administer medications and IV therapies in accordance with provider orders and PACU protocols

  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond promptly to changes in patient condition

  • Maintain patient safety and comply with anesthesia recovery standards

  • Collaborate effectively with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and perioperative teams

  • Prepare patients for discharge or transfer to inpatient units

  • Educate patients and families regarding post-operative recovery

  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EPIC preferred)

  • Participate in structured handoff communication to ensure continuity of care

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized PACU environment

  • Perform additional PACU-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of PACU RN experience

  • Experience caring for post-anesthesia or immediate post-operative patients

  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and airway management skills

  • Ability to manage rapidly changing patient conditions

  • Experience with EMR documentation (EPIC preferred)

Preferred Experience
  • Phase I PACU experience

  • Experience with moderate sedation or recovery room care

Required Certifications & Licensure
  • Active New Jersey RN license or Compact RN license

  • AHA BLS

  • AHA ACLS

  • PALS (preferred, based on unit needs)
